The Water Mill

The watermill was recorded in the late 19th century and was at some point partially demolished and rebuilt to generate electricity for the hall and farm via a line carried on poles. It is a charmimg and interesting rare survivor of an estate mill adapted to a new purpose. The owners have taken a sensible view and had a local millwright conserve the waterwheel, brickwork and the building covering it. This work was done within the Philosophy of Repair of the Mills Section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB). The Mills Section are always pleased to see owners taking the initiative and doing such worthy work as we are losing mills all the time, mainly to dreadful ill thought out conversions!
